The Newcombe Story
In fall 2021, Newcombe Design Associates Inc. was acquired by X-Design Inc., a renowned leader in design. Consequently, this strategic move granted Newcombe Design access to valuable resources, including an ISO 9001:2015 International Standard certification and a strong project management team.
Moreover, Newcombe Design and X-Design formed a powerful and diverse team of over 40 professionals. This team blended expertise in healthcare and senior living design. By combining Newcombe Design’s three decades of experience in seniors’ residences and healthcare spaces with X-Design’s dynamic work environments, many opportunities for collaboration and growth were created.
Ultimately, this partnership enhanced both companies’ ability to meet diverse client needs and achieve organizational goals in healthcare and senior living design.
From the outset, Newcombe Design provides comprehensive planning services, considering both the overarching project scope and intricate details. Consequently, our holistic approach aligns all elements for optimal space utilization, ensuring every detail fits within the designated space. This method guarantees a well-coordinated and efficient project, reflecting Newcombe Design’s commitment to excellence.
We were retained by Montgomery Sisam Architects to collaborate with Kipling Acres and the City of Toronto. Consequently, we developed the interior furniture program for the new Phase 1, 192-bed long-term care facility. Additionally, we worked on the new Phase 2, 145-bed long-term care facility. Newcombe Design played a crucial role in both phases, ensuring quality and functionality. This partnership highlights Newcombe Design’s expertise in creating effective and comfortable care environments.
As part of the FF&E consulting team, we were retained by EllisDon We planned and procured over $7 million of furniture for St. Joseph’s Health Care’s new 89-bed, 235,000 sq. ft. Regional Mental Health facility in St. Thomas and the 156-bed, 250,000 sq. ft. Regional Mental Health Facility in London, Ontario. Working closely with the architectural team, we ensured the furniture styles and upholstery materials integrated and enhanced the interior architecture.
Collaborating with Verve, developer DCMS, and Global Architects, we developed the complete interior design program for the new Shores of Port Credit Residence. This project incorporated two eight-storey towers of luxury rentals—a retirement residence and lifestyle seniors apartments. The two towers were connected by a lobby and an atrium with well-appointed amenity spaces. This collaboration showcased Newcombe Design’s ability to create luxurious and functional living spaces.
